AV Cerruda

The Cerruda Neighborhood Association was created in 1972. Its first location was on Calle Gamonal, behind the church of San Rafael. Being called that area "the cerruda", hence its name. The initial Denomination was for heads of families. Later it goes to another nearby location, located on Calle Juan XXIII. The partners logically in the beginning were men. From the association, among other activities, they controlled the purchase of fuel for the generator that gave light to the old quarters "called the pigsties", where the Mercadona supermarket is located today. In 1982, it moved to the premises where it is currently located, on Avda. de la Unión. In those years, with the arrival of democracy, it was renamed the Neighborhood Association. We have developed several activities. We have the privilege of having the oldest crafts workshop in the Canary Islands, with a background of more than 30 years. In the first years of the new premises, with what was obtained from making the income statement, the floor was laid. We developed an awareness Festival to raise money for the fight against drugs. Healthy cooking workshops. Toy workshops for children. We collaborate with Radio Ecca, in the delivery of courses for food handlers. At the beginning of the workshops for the disabled, organized by the Social Services area, the premises were given to them. Several trips abroad were also organized for cultural visits with the esteemed organization and collaboration of Susana Hidalgo.
